Rose Cardamom Hot Cocoa
This twist on simple hot chocolate is more complex and flavorful. Because it uses oat milk, you can enjoy it while keeping most kidney-restricted nutrients quite low.
Makes
Serving size
Ingredients
2 cups oat milk
½ teaspoon cardamom, ground
3 tablespoons brown sugar
¼ cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
1 tablespoon rose water
Crushed rose petals for garnish (optional, not included in nutrient analysis)
Instructions
- Combine milk, cardamom, brown sugar, and cocoa powder into a small saucepan over medium-high heat.
- Whisk to thoroughly combine.
- Cook until milk forms bubbles on the edges, about 3 to 5 minutes.
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and set aside for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Add the rose water and stir to fully incorporate.
- Divide the hot chocolate into two cups or mugs.
- Serve with a sprinkle of crushed rose petals as garnish (if using).
Cooking Tip
Take care not to let the milk come to a rolling boil or it will spill over the pot onto the stove.
