Here is a traditional and famous Chinese dish that offers a new take on how to enjoy tofu and eggs. These pan fried tofu smell good, look good, and taste good.

Ingredients

INGREDIENTS FOR TOFU:

1 large egg, beaten

¼ cup (14 grams) Chinese chives, finely chopped

2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons (16 grams) carrots, shredded and chopped

½ teaspoon white pepper, ground

½ teaspoon cumin, ground

¼ cup cornstarch

9 ounces (255 grams) tofu, medium firm, cut into ¼ inch thick slices

1 ½ tablespoons vegetable oil

INGREDIENTS FOR DIPPING SAUCE:

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1 tablespoon water

1 ½ teaspoon Kikkoman® Soy Sauce, less salt

2 teaspoon (3 grams) green onion, finely chopped

½ teaspoon (1 gram) chili pepper, freshly chopped

1 teaspoon (0.3 grams) coriander leaves, chopped

¼ teaspoon sesame seeds, whole

Instructions

  1. Beat the egg in a shallow bowl.
  2. Add chives, carrots, white pepper, and cumin. Mix well.
  3. Spread cornstarch onto a plate. Coat each side of tofu slices with cornstarch.
  4. Dip into the egg mixture.
  5. Heat oil in a medium skillet over medium-low heat.
  6. Place tofu slices in the hot pan and cook until both sides are golden brown, approximately 2 to 3 minutes for each side.
  7. Combine all the ingredients for the dipping sauce in a small bowl. Mix well.
  8. Serve with fried tofu as part of a light meal or as a side dish.

Cooking Tip

Add minced ginger into the egg mixture for more earthy and peppery flavors. It will taste equally delicious with or without ginger.
