Meatloaf for dinner! This recipe is easy and filled with sage, mushrooms, and aromatic sage.

Ingredients

Ingredients for Loaf 

¼ cup heavy cream 

¾ cup water 

⅔ cup breadcrumbs 

2 eggs 

2 tablespoons onions, diced 

½ cup fresh shiitake mushrooms, diced (or regular no salt added canned mushrooms) 

1 teaspoon ground sage 

1 teaspoon dry mustard 

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg 

1 ½ pounds ground beef, 80%  

 

Ingredients for Topping 

¼ cup no salt ketchup 

2 tablespoons brown sugar 

1 teaspoon dry mustard 

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. 
  2. Mix the cream and water together then pour the breadcrumbs into the cream-water and let stand until liquid is absorbed. 
  3. Place into a large bowl and add all remaining loaf ingredients. 
  4. Mix well and place into a loaf pan. 
  5. Bake for 30 minutes then drain excess fat into the empty mushrooms can (if used). 
  6. Bake for another 30 to 40 minutes or until internal meat temperature reads 145°F. 
  7. While that is baking, mix all the topping ingredients together. 
  8. When meat is done, remove from the oven and pour the sauce over top. 
  9. Return to the oven for 3 to 5 minutes or until sauce is hot. 
  10. Remove from oven and let rest for 3 minutes before cutting. 
  11. Cut into 8 servings of 3-ounce each. 

Cooking Tip

Use lean ground beef (90/10) to lower the amount of saturated fat.
