Homestyle Hamburgers
Nothing says summer quite like sizzling hamburgers right off the barbecue. So if you have a barbecue, grill these patties instead of using a skillet. The timing is similar, and you’ll add a delightful charred taste to the meat.
Serve your hamburgers with favorite toppings, either on a bun or a leaf of lettuce, depending on your dietary needs.
Makes
Serving size
Ingredients
12 ounces lean ground beef
½ cup sweet onion, chopped
1 teaspoon fresh garlic, minced
1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
½ teaspoon fresh thyme, chopped
Pinch of black pepper, freshly grounded
1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- In a large bowl, mix together the beef, onion, garlic, mustard, thyme, and pepper until well combined.
- Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal balls, and form into ½-inch-thick patties.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil.
- Pan-fry the burgers until they are cooked through and browned, about 6 minutes per side.
- Serve hot.
Cooking Tip
Raw hamburger patties freeze very well when tightly wrapped, so double up the recipe and stock up for a future meal. Place a piece of parchment paper between the patties so they are easy to separate, and cook them right from frozen.
