Baked Apples
Classic baked apples are easier to make than apple pie, and taste just as delicious. Bake and serve to your friends and family for a healthy option.
Makes
Serving size
Ingredients
2 medium sweet-tart apples (Jonathan, Jonagold, Cortland, Braeburn, Honeycrisp)
4 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
½ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground cloves
½ cup water
1 teaspoon ground nuts (optional, included in nutrition analysis)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Wash and core the apples. Leave a bit at the bottom to hold the fillings. If you core all the way through, wrap aluminum foil around the bottom portion of the apple to act as a cup.
- Place on a baking pan.
- Combine the sugar, butter, cinnamon, cloves, and ground nuts (if desired).
- Roll the mixture into a log shape and fill each of the apples with half the mix.
- Pour water into the pan and bake until apples are soft and can be pierced with a fork, about 30 to 45 minutes.
Cooking Tip
Substitute maple syrup with sugar-free maple syrup that is safe to heat if you want to reduce your sugar intake
