For Professionals

I had right kidney removed renal cell carcinoma clear cell stage: pT3a, NX what should my limits be on protein, and other foods? I follow a cardiac diet but, I’ve been reading on your site foods that should be limited and I had surgery June of 2019 and haven’t really followed so just making sure going forward to take the right steps.

First of all, hats off to you for all that you went through and the changes you have made thus far. I can imagine it being confusing with so many resources out there – with some lists contradicting each other. There are several reliable resources for general diet information; American Kidney Fund is one such resource. However, it sounds like you hope to obtain specific information and recommendations for your specific situation. To which, it would be recommended for you to follow up with your primary care provider, nephrologist, or oncologist and to request for a referral to see a renal or oncology registered dietitian so that he/she can review your labs and your specific needs. You can also find a renal registered dietitian on the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website: https://www.eatright.org/find-a-nutrition-expert. You have the option of searching for in-person or telehealth dietitian, as well as location and specialty (Kidney Disease and Renal).
