The amount of protein you need is different for everyone. Dietitians usually calculate protein based on your body weight. People who are not on dialysis need a lower protein diet – 0.6-0.8 grams of protein per kilogram body weight. People who are on dialysis need a higher protein diet – 1.2 grams or protein per kilogram body weight. Your dietitian may adjust your protein goal based on many factors, so it is best to ask your dietitian how much protein is right for you.
