How do I keep my potassium levels under control?

Controlling potassium levels is different for everyone. One thing you can do is limit how much potassium you eat. The key is to limit foods that are very high in potassium and eating mostly lower potassium foods. Some very high potassium foods include bananas, both white and sweet potatoes, oranges, mangoes, avocado, tomato sauce and most fruit juices.

Potassium is added to a lot of processed foods too! Look at the ingredients on the Nutrition Facts label and avoid food with any potassium ingredients. Sugar free drinks and low sodium foods often have ingredients like potassium chloride or potassium sorbate in them. Controlling your blood sugar, avoiding constipation and being physically active can also help control potassium levels.
