For Professionals

As a transplant recipient, what foods are best for both kidney and heart health?

In general, healthy foods for both your heart and kidneys include all fresh (or frozen!) fruits and vegetables, whole grain foods like brown rice, whole grain pasta, whole grain bread or quinoa, and small portions of lean proteins such a chicken, turkey, fish and seafood. Bonus for choosing non-processed plant based proteins like beans, lentils, nuts and seeds! Proper nutrition for kidney transplant recipients will depend on your lab values. Ask your dietitian for specific recommendations!
