Are there any foods I should avoid if I’m on dialysis?

Unfortunately, there is no blanket diet or list of foods “to” or “not to” eat for people on dialysis. The reason is because such recommendations are directly linked to how your body, specifically your kidneys, are able to process various foods. This can be directly assessed by reviewing your labs. There may be a chance there are no foods you need to “avoid”, but rather simply limit.

It’s great you are interested in knowing what to/not to eat so that you can manage your health. Let the renal dietitian at your dialysis center know so that together you can go over your labs in order to explore what diet recommendations would be best for you.
