Are bananas the only foods that are high in potassium?

Bananas are considered high in potassium, but are not the only food. The common high potassium foods that people generally have in their diet include: bananas, potatoes, yams, tomatoes, avocados, melons, dairy, orange juice, vegetable juices, and salt substitutes – just to name a few. A helpful tip to keep in mind: there are traces of potassium in many foods, so the KEY is to focus on the foods that have a higher potassium content to limit/avoid. There are tons of low-potassium foods that you CAN safely eat. Reach out to your renal dietitian to discuss the amount that would be safe for you. That way eating will hopefully not feel as restrictive or overwhelming.
