What are some quick healthy snacks for a person on dialysis who has diabetes and high blood pressure? How many meals should they eat daily?

To start off, there isn’t a specific number of meals a person should have. This should be determined by the person him/herself. Some people are not able to tolerate big meals, therefore, it would be more beneficial for him/her/them to have 4-6 small frequent meals daily. It is important to be mindful of your blood sugars and so, it is often recommended for people with diabetes to have a snack between meals if choosing to eat the standard 3 meals daily. This brings us to the topic of snacks. Some health snack options you can consider are hard boiled eggs, unsalted crackers/pretzels/popcorn, carrot sticks, sugar free cookies, etc. The American Kidney Fund has a resource called the Kidney Kitchen where you can get recipes and snack ideas to meet your specific needs.
